The National Association of Water Companies Responds to the State of the Union Address

01/29/2014

Michael Deane, executive director of the National Association of Water Companies (NAWC), released the following statement in response to last night’s State of the Union address:

"Though President Obama mentioned the condition of America's infrastructure in last night's State of the Union address, it's unfortunate that he didn't specifically address the state of our critical drinking water and wastewater systems. Decades of neglect have left aging water infrastructure systems across the U.S. in dire need of repair or replacement, as evidenced by the 650 water main breaks every day in our country. This is a national concern that puts communities at risk, and it deserves the attention of our leaders.

Individuals, families, businesses and industries rely on the delivery of safe, reliable drinking and wastewater services - an essential part of every aspect of our lives, from public health and safety to economic prosperity. It's incumbent upon all of us to take ownership of our water infrastructure challenges and ensure the same reliable and safe water that has allowed America to grow and thrive can continue to flow."
