Private Water Industry Supports Advancement of Discussions on the Global Water Crisis with Running Dry and the Senator Paul Simon Water for the Poor Act

WASHINGTON, DC – The National Association of Water Companies (NAWC) applauds efforts to improve equitable access to affordable and safe drinking water and sanitation in developing countries as a component of U.S. foreign assistance. Today’s Congressional screening of the award winning documentary Running Dry is an important milestone in the campaign to increase awareness of the global water crisis.

“The private water industry actively supports efforts to highlight the challenges of delivering safe and affordable drinking water and sanitation, which is why NAWC provided start up costs, in kind support and annual grants to ensure the success of the film,” said Peter Cook, NAWC executive director. NAWC also supports funding of the Paul Simon Water for the Poor Act.

“Populations in developing countries utilize water differently than we do in suburban and rural America. Therefore, solutions to the world water crisis must be carefully tailored to individual communities,” continued Cook. “They must also be fully sustainable, inexpensively implemented and maintained by the local communities.”
