Water companies have served this nation for more than 200 years and have a long history of reliably providing quality water service. The National Association of Water Companies represents members located throughout the nation that range in size from large companies that own, operate or partner with hundreds of systems in multiple states to individual utilities serving a few hundred customers. The association’s members provide service to more than 73 million Americans, nearly a quarter of our country’s population, and are in a position to assist their counterparts in the public sector who are financially constrained to find cost-effective solutions to provide clean and safe water. There are many advantages to working with a private operator whether through a privately-owned utility or through a public-private partnership. A few of the ways communities and customers alike can benefit from private water solutions include access to capital for water infrastructure improvements, a stellar environmental compliance record, economies of scale, operational efficiency and expertise, and new technologies.
