Energy Storage North America (ESNA) today announced that Robert Powelson has been recognized as an ESNA 2018 Policy Champion Award winner for his innovation and leadership in energy storage and positive impact on the energy storage industry.
“I am honored to receive Energy Storage North America’s Policy Champion Award,” said Poweslon. “During my tenure with the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC), the Commission removed barriers to the participation of energy storage resources in the markets operated by Regional Transmission Organizations (RTOs) and Independent System Operators (ISOs) through FERC Order No. 841. The order is tangible evidence of the Commission’s commitment to fair and open markets. It also speaks to the potential of energy storage and the benefits it can provide to the grid and, more importantly, to consumers.”
Powelson is the President and Chief Executive Officer of the National Association of Water Companies (NAWC). Prior to joining NAWC, Powelson served as a FERC Commissioner. He was nominated to the FERC by President Donald J. Trump in May 2017 and confirmed by the U.S. Senate on August 4, 2017. Commissioner Powelson came to FERC from the Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission, where he served since June 2008, including as Chairman from 2011-2015.
