NAWC commends Biden's State of the Union commitments to Water, wastewater infrastructure

PHILADELPHIA – The National Association of Water Companies (NAWC) President and CEO Robert F. Powelson issued the following statement after President Biden’s 2023 State of the Union Address:

“President Biden’s ongoing commitments to improving the nation’s water and wastewater infrastructure are to be commended. America’s regulated water companies continue to answer the calls for improving this vital but aging infrastructure by proactively replacing hundreds and hundreds of miles of pipelines each year. In fact, the nation’s 10 largest private water companies invest more than $3.9 billion annually to improve the nation’s water and wastewater systems.

“Funding a permanent low-income assistance program for water and wastewater customers is an immediate step Congress and the administration can take to ensure affordability. Adopting the Clean Water State Revolving Fund (SRF) Parity Act (House Bill 250) is additional action that can quickly be taken on Capitol Hill to make sure every American – no matter who their wastewater service provider is – has equal access taxpayer-funded, low-interest loans to help ensure safe, reliable and affordable wastewater service.
